2019-2020 Contest Information

The Essay Contest is sponsored by Optimist International to give young people the opportunity to write about their own opinions regarding the world in which they live. The approach can encompass a young person’s personal experience, the experience of their country or a more historical perspective. In addition to developing skills for written expression, participants also have the opportunity to win a college scholarship!

Topic: "Is Optimism the Key to Achieving the Dreams you iMagine?"

Students should compose a 700 to 800 word essay around this central idea.

Who: The contest is open to contestants under the age of 19 as of October 1 of the current Optimist International contest year (October 1 – September 30) and is not enrolled as a degree seeking student of a post-secondary institution. Districts and Clubs will hold combined gender contests.

An Optimist International program for students to have the opportunity to earn scholarships to pursue opportunities in higher education. Club winners advance to District, where one District winner will receive a $2,500 scholarship.
